Yelle

Sifting through Facebook today, I came across the video, by Yelle, A Cause des Garcons, posted by a friend. Translated to ‘Because of the Boys’, the song features some fantastic dance pop, with an exuberant synthesizer, unparallelled by most pop bands in North America, Her album, Pop Up, captures French pop from 15 years ago, reminding me of my partying days a long time ago in the  Montreal gay dance bars, yet with a hell of a lot more synth and electronica. I liken her to what Madonna’s pop would have sounded like if Madonna took lots of crack.

But, Yelle is no whacked- out-on-crack lady. She said in a recent interview about her energy during a show, “I don’t take drugs or drink alcohol before the show, I just eat pasta, and I sleep every chance I get.”

Yelle’s album Pop Up is filled with tunes that make you want to jump out of your chair, and dance, dance, DANCE… even if you have no clue what the hell she’s saying in French.

A Cause was remixed by Tepr, and features the dance craze, Tecktonic. Of Tecktonic music, Yelle says, “It’s not a problem for me to be close to tecktonik because I like to dance, but I’m not a big fan of the haircut or the clothing.”

She adds, in another interview, ”We just did a video clip using Tecktonik dancers … but the thing is we do real pop music, not Tecktonik music. So it’s not right to be considered a Tecktonik singer. It’s cool to be thought of with them.”

Yelle’s song, Je Veux Tu Voir (I want to see you):

Here’s the remix for A Cause des Garcons, featuring Tecktonic dance:

And, finally, a song by Fatal Bazooka, featuring Yelle, titled, Parle a la Main (talk to the hand):
