Aronld California is supposedly moving towards full gay marriage equality. Last week, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke to the California Log Cabin Republicans and said that he will fight against the ballot initiative by the Family Research council seeking to amend the constitution to ban gay marriage in Cali. The Huffington Post reports that “sources wishing to remain anonymous in the California Court System indicate that the court… will not simply strike down Proposition 22, but will move the State of California toward full marriage, if not even granting full marriage rights for gays and lesbians outright.”

Dutch civil servants are, reportedly, now required to officiate at same sex marriages or they will be excluded from officiating at any marriages. The Netherlands was the first country to allow same sex marriages in 2001, three years after it permitted same sex couples to register as domestic partners. One snag though, those Dutch gays and lesbians can’t adopt yet. Changes to the laws are in the making.

A Turkish human rights organization was raided by police last week, in what Human Rights Watch referred to as, ’an escalating pattern of harassment of gay rights groups’. Human Rights Watch sent a letter to Turkish Minister of Interior Bebir Atalay, indicating the need for the Turkish government to stop the official harassment of queer-related groups, and to train their criminal justice officials in human rights.

This coming weekend, April 19 and 20, The Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, will convene an Australia 2020 Summit at their Parliament House to help shape a long term strategy for the nation’

s future. SX News reports that queer themes will play front and centre at this year’s Summit. Some of the topics covered will be preventative health strategies, strengthening communities and social inclusion, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and the future of the arts, film and design.
