Waters is well known as a writer, director, and actor of his campy, cult classic films such as Hairspray (the original), Serial Mom, Cry-Baby, and Pink Flamingos. His characters are awesomely filthy, immorally moralistic, and morally immoralistic. Details recently asked him to describe his coup of mainstream when Hairspray became a huge Broadway hit, which is also happening to Cry Baby. He said,
