The International Lesbian and Gay Alliance - Europe Division and TransGender Europe have examined the experiences of health care by Transgender people in the European Union. The published report is considered the most comprehensive data collection process ever pursued on the lives of transgender people.
The report suggests that many states have failed to implement the directives and significant laws released from both the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights. These failures have left a Europe divided with a few of its Transgender population having fairly good access to medicine and their rights.
Other problems identified were that most states do not fund hormone treatments or refuse to perform acceptable baseline surgeries, while others often do not approve gender reassignment surgery. Many health professionals across all countries also lack information about transgender issues.
