Lets face it, Rogers and fido are basically the same company. Roger has announced previously that they will be offering iPhone 3G in canada.
Now, fido has also issued a press released stating they will start offer iPhone 3G starting July 11, 2008. Pricing will be CAD$199 for 8GB or CAD$299 for the 16GB version. Both will required a 3 year contract! No word on if they will offer the phone without contracts with a higher price.
On the other hand, Rogers is accepting pre-orders for the iPhone! Whatever model you want (8GB/16GB Black/16GB White). A $50-100 deposit is required and you will get your phone within 1-5 days after the launch date.
No detail on Voice/Data plan has been officially released. But we assume it will start around the $70/month range.

For the first generation adapters, if they don’t really need 3g connectivity and GPS, there’s no good reason to upgrade. The star of this update is not really hardware, but the new iphone 2.0 software which can be downloaded for free after July 11 if you have the first generation iPhone.
So what is iPhone 2.0 software? It’s the operation system that runs your phone. Much like XP for window and OSX for mac. This new software will provide much enhancements to the iPhone experience and functionalities.

Denis Guidone has been selected as the winner of the international design competition Adamo Eva. From Yanko Design:
His whimsical scribble watch design called “Ora Unica”, meaning One Hour, is a wonderful contrast of chaos and order mixed together. In their words, “The hour and minute hands are represented by a single line drawn on two circular faces, which turn one inside the other. Both faces together resemble a graphical gesture, a doodle that changes as time passes.”
Check out the gallery above to see how the ends of the scribble represent time.

Think LCD / LED is too cheap for you? Then you will be amazed at this Limited Edition deGrisogono Watch. Available in four styles—red and gold, titanium and gold, titanium and platinum, and titanium and rubber—the Meccanica DG is waterproof to 100 feet and, of course, is heinously expensive. Get your black american express card ready and sign USD $199,977 away.
Looking at this limited-edition Di Grisogono Meccanica DG, you probably think it’s a hybrid mechanical-digital watch. Well, you’re totally WRONG. Despite its appearance, the Meccanica DG is completely analog, comprising of 651 pieces and absolutely no digital parts or LEDs whatsoever.
Just 177 of these amazing timepieces are going to be made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Geneva-based horloger. Billed as the most complicated digital-analog timepiece in the world, the digital display is actually mechanical, with rolling tubes forming the digital segments. This is how it works, according to the press release.
The mechanically operated digital display of the second timezone shows tens of hours, single hours, tens of minutes and single minutes, all displayed by mobile microsegments driven by an assemblage of 23 cams connected to a set of gears and a triggering and synchronization system. The time information is displayed by an array of 23 horizontally and vertically positioned microsegments. Vertical segments are 9 mm high and weigh at most 25 milligrams while the horizontal segments measure 2.90 mm in length and weigh only 10 milligrams. The segments have four faces: two opposing visible faces fitted with colored strips and two opposing unmarked faces. Time changes are effected by 90° rotations of the required segment or segments. Involving one to twelve segments, time changes are lightning fast.
“Apple has filed a patent for a technology which would enable a layer of solar cells to be inserted under a touch-sensitive screen of the sort used in the iPhone.
“The patent, should it be awarded, has the potential to make the iPhone a truly portable device, dispensing with the need for it to be connected to a power supply by wires.
“There is usually little room for solar panels on portable devices, once space taken up by the screen and keypad is taken into account - a fact which has plagued previous attempts to power MP3 players and mobile phones via the sun.
“Apple’s patent would get round the problem by stacking the solar cells underneath both the touch-sensitive screen and the LCD. That would potentially allow the full 2.4 by 4.5 inch glass face of the iPhone to operate as a solar panel.
“If the application, entitled ‘Solar cells on portable devices’, is successful, it has the potential to increase dramatically the battery life of iPhones and iPods. According to Apple, the existing iPhone battery gives about eight hours of talk time and seven hours of video, but once a faster, 3G version is released, the device will become even more power-hungry.”
You might know it as the RIM BlackBerry 9000, but on May 11 2008, Research In Motion (RIM) officially took the wraps off the highly anticipated smartphone, complete with a new name - BlackBerry Bold.
The BlackBerry Bold features a half-VGA (480×320 pixel resolution) and a 65,000-color display. During some initial product testing, research group participants repeatedly called the screen “bold” and “brilliant”, hence the name.
We can’t show you how sharp and crisp everything looks on the display, since your computer screen’s monitor pixel size is a lot bigger then Bold’s. This means the phone has a much higher number of pixels per square inch. Smaller pixels means sharper images. Reviews around the web wave about the display quality. RIM also revamped the Menu Interface with a much more modern look and icons. The enclosure is more elegant than past models, with curvier edges and a silver trim(iphone look alike) that complements the black casing.
If you turn it over, you’ll also notice that the back has a leatherette texture. No more slick plastic. If you want to individualize your phone a bit or to match it with your outfits, RIM sells replaceable backplates in different colors, including blue, gray, and red.
An improved Web browser (thank goodness), with the option to view pages in a full desktop HTML style or a mobile version was included, and you can now more easily navigate pages with the trackball, which acts like a mouse cursor, and zoom in and out.

Boy Genius has apparently unearthed more juicy tidbits about that rumored BlackBerry touchscreen device. Currently, the model number is the BlackBerry 9500, though it’s very early and that’s likely to change. Word from BG is that the new iPhone-ish handset is now internally codenamed the “Thunder,” and will come to Verizon and Vodafone as an exclusive device. The phone will reportedly have four physical keys (send, end, menu, and back), sport a hybrid CDMA EV-DO Rev. C / GSM HSPA radio, and could come with a 4G version. YES, 4G!!! Bye bye 3G! BGR has included a self-made mockup (below) of what the device may look like, but as of now, no one has laid eyes on this mythical creature.
