1) Day Labor
2) Selling old items
3) Lemonade Stand
4) Street Perform
5) Panhandle
6) Donate Plasma
7) Recycle
8) Fill out online surveys
9) Enter a sweepstakes
10) Become a moving advertisement with your car

Bizarre lightbulb Ad from Thailand

This ad for Sylvania lightbulbs is about as bizarre as it gets. Too bad they had to include a Transvestite when coming with an othewise creative assortment of monsters and ghosts.

UNStudio’s New Apartment Building Under Construction in NY

Straight from New York… Construction has begun in Tribeca on Five Franklin Place by Dutch architect Ben van Berkel of UNStudio.

Van Berkel says, “The apartments at Five Franklin Place do not follow a strong grid. They are organically designed in how the stairs swoop upward, how the balcony loops you back indoors. There’s an idea of looping around the apartments, without many dead ends, so that all of the space really accommodates life and the flow of life.”

Iranian Leaders Hate Barbie

Sara or Dara
In 2002, Iran introduced its own competing dolls — the twins Dara and Sara — who were designed to promote traditional values with their modest clothing and pro-family stories.

Fox News reports that a top Iranian official warned Monday against the “destructive” cultural and social consequences of importing Barbie dolls and other Western toys. “The irregular importation of such toys… is destructive culturally and a social danger,” said Prosecutor General Ghorban Ali Dori Najafabadi in letter to Vice President Parviz Davoudi.

Barbie is sold wearing swimsuits and miniskirts in a society where women must wear head scarves in public and men and women are not allowed to swim together. Authorities launched a campaign of confiscating Barbies from toy shops in 2002.

We, at blurberry, sadly, must agree with these Iranian leaders, but for obviously different reasons. We are in no way intolerant of sexual promiscuity, and are in fact high promoters of such wonderful behaviors (when safe), for men and women! But Barbie is simply a bad role model for young girls. But, so are Sara and Dara. So, let’s call it even.

Erin Davies, Fag Bug Driver

fagbug
Last year, Erin Davies from New York State had her car vandalized, with the words ‘fag’ and ‘u r gay.’ Instead of getting her car repainted, she kept the graffiti on her car for more than a year as a way to start conversations and to raise awareness about queer issues and homophobia. She drove across the U.S. last year to document people’s reactions to the words gay.

Well, Erin’s fag bug has a new look, thanks to Volkswagen. Now her car is a serious advertisement against homophobia.

Erin said, “Fag Bug has become much more than when it started. And to be able to transform it into something positive, rather than have people look at my car and be upset and hurt, I’d rather they look and see how bright the colors are, see something fun and playful instead of something hurtful.”

She says about the old car, “It personally made me really uncomfortable to drive around in the Fag Bug, initially, and I will admit I still am at times. But throughout this whole experience I’ve grown stronger as an individual,” she said.

You can see her flickr photos here.
